The Competition

About us

We are a group of young people who started Out of the Box because of our great lovefor tin cans and for graphic design.

We believe that graphic design is a genuine art form, and that the common tin can which can be found in any home is a unique and intriguing object which can act as a vehicle for presenting this art.

The first Coming Out of the Can competition took place in April 2009 and hundreds of designers took part in it.

The tremendous response to the competition proved to me that artists need a stage. We have made this stage a reality and we hope to keep on using this stage for many years to come.

The Jewish Agency Marks 80 Years of Israeli Endeavor

In education, society, aliyah, absorption, establishing new communities, providing information, in war and in peace, in the Negev, the Galilee, in the deserts and in cultivation, on special days and regular days, in Israel and around the world.

The Jewish Agency is an 80 year old Zionist enterprise with the vitality, zest and creativity of an 18 year old. Although for many Zionism ended with the establishment of the state of Israel, for us - the Jewish Agency’s employees and volunteers - it is still in its infancy. Contemporary Zionism, at the end of the first decade of the third millennium, doesn’t just build houses and pave roads, it builds a future for the state of Israel and paves roads for young Jewish men and women to realize their potential, for them and for the sake of a strong and cohesive Jewish community, in Israel and around the world.

Unknown to many, the Jewish Agency supports a wide range of projects in Israel, provides financial assistance for businesses in outlying regions of the country, operates education programs for children and youth, and more

What does the Jewish connection really mean?
It was this bond between the Jews of the world that led to the creation of the state of Israel, established its infrastructures, gathered the Jews of the world to it, and now ensures its constant reinforcement.

At the same time, this connection preserves the bond between Jews living outside Israel and their Jewish identity, strengthens their link with the Jewish people around the world, and in Israel, and addresses the changing issues of the time. This bond can no longer be taken for granted and efforts must be made to sustain and boost it, and even re-establish it. That is where the Jewish Agency comes in, because there is no other organization in the world that takes care of this area.

The connection between the design of the box and Judaism
When addressing the design of the box, beneath a message that reads The Jewish Connection, you have to think outside the box of the perceived conservatism of Zionism, which we learned about in our history lessons at school. You have to find the small human story that incorporates and encapsulates the Jewish connection. We want to present a younger, vital, contemporary and essential Jewish Agency, a Jewish Agency that is necessary and fresh and energized. Blue and white are good colors, but the aim is to draw on the Jewish Agency’s other shades, so go for the whole pallet!

About the Wings Program

All the Proceeds from Sales of the Boxes Will Go to the Jewish Agency’s Wings Program

Wings is a program that provides helps for lone immigrant soldiers. Each year around 700 lone immigrant soldiers complete their army service. These soldiers come to Israel from different countries around the world with the aim of making Israel their home, leaving behind them their family, friends and a comfortable life. Despite their being alone in Israel, and struggling to adapt to life in their new country, they are highly motivated to protect their new homeland and love their responsibilities in the IDF. The Jewish Agency returns some of that love to the soldiers and facilitates their service until they find their place in Israeli society.

The program includes an intensive preparatory course, and individual advice and guidance, which help lone immigrant soldiers to start their civilian life with the tools they need to live an independent life outside the “cozy” framework of the army. As part of the program the soldiers acquire knowledge about their rights as former immigrant soldiers, support with choosing a profession and developing personal skills to help them integrate successfully in studies and the job market in Israel. The soldiers also receive financial advice, as well as grants to help combat soldiers find their feet after leaving the army.

Help is provided through intensive group workshops, as well as individual advice and guidance sessions tailored to the individual needs of each soldier, to help them make decision that have a long term impact on their personal future at such a critical juncture as they leave the army.

To the Competition

Following last year’s success, and (unceasing) demand from the public, we are delighted to announce that the Out of the Box venture is continuing for another year, with renewed energies.

This year the 2010 Out of the Box competition will address the topic of the Jewish connection, to mark the 80th anniversary of the Jewish Agency.

We invite you to register and design your box. Now’s the time to let your hair down and come out of the box.

Extensive exposure is guaranteed to the winners.
